Easter Outfit

This is the outfit I wore for Easter. I didn't really do it up this year because I'm on a budget. As I looked through pretty new dresses at the mall, I asked myself, "Tbyrd, is this a want or a need?" and that settled it. 

So I just threw together something weather appropriate (it was too chilly for me) that I already had in my closet. Anyway, a fashion debate arose when I added the pink belt. To clarify, I didn't wear the belt to church, but had I known of its existence, I would have (it's my mom's)! Instead, I wore it around the house for the rest of the day vowing to wear the ensemble one day (with high heels like these), despite the objections of 3 family members who felt it clashed (one family member disagreed with them). I think it makes the outfit pop. What do you think?

Respect

I stumbled upon this site a while ago and immediately heard my father, in the back of my mind, going on about how men and boys dressed well in his day. In his words, they were "clean" - not like young men today with their pants sagging, wearing sneakers/tennis shoes all the time, etc.  He loooved to harp on this especially when I was a teenager (I don't know why because the sagging pants were never attractive to me).  I'm sure the young men of Street Etiquette would be a breath of fresh air to my father's generation. They are to me (even though I will never be a fan of skinny jeans on men either). I have nothing against sweatpants and jeans or athletic wear at all, but it doesn't hurt for a man to look dapper sometimes.  Further, how long can a man dress like a boy?  Better yet, is there such a thing as dressing like a man or boy?  Thoughts?

Destination Inspiration: D.C. and Tokyo

This weekend, I had a chance to do something I haven't in quite a while - drive around the city alone on a sunny day listening to WPFW and my iPod. Long sunny drives are always good for clearing my head, and people watching in the city is great for writing ideas.

I ventured out to pick up a gift for my sister and stopped by one of my favorite bookstores - the Barnes & Noble in Georgetown. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they have one of the most extensive magazine stands in the area so I'm always like a kid in a candy store there. I had given up my magazine addiction for quite some time in the interest of my checkbook, but I'm working on nurturing my creative side, so I stocked up on design and graphic arts magazines. (Thank God for wonderful friends and fam who know my love of the bookstore well and shower me with gift cards because design magazines are pretty pricey!) The highlight of my day however, was the Tokyo Look Book I stumbled across in Urban Outfitters. It’s chock full of cutting-edge fashion from the streets of Tokyo and it has definitely made its way to my inspiration library wishlist.
